Meaning of Tu Hi Meri Shab: The Poetry of Ultimate Devotion
Written by Sayeed Quadri, ‘Tu Hi Meri Shab’ translates to ‘You are my night.’ The song captures the absolute surrender of a lover to their beloved. By using cosmic elements like night (shab), morning (subah), and the world (parakh), the lyrics paint a picture of romantic obsession. It suggests that the speaker’s entire reality begins and ends with one person, making it an eternal favorite for anyone who has ever experienced all-consuming love.
I got a mail yesterday from someone who had read the translation of a few lines of the song “Tu Hi Meri Shab…” I had written on April 18th 2006. The request was for the full translation of the song and I happily obliged :) Then I thought what the heck, I have already written the translation might as well post it so that someone else can use it if they require :P
I tried my level best to keep the poetic nature of the lines… Hope its not very bad :) Here it is…
