Bas Ek Pal (Bas Ek Pal) – Lyrics English Meaning/Translation

Bas Ek Pal

Image via Wikipedia

Bas Ek Pal is another movie whose soundtrack I absolutely love. Almost all the songs in this movie deserve to be on this list but I chose to only keep one so that I could include more songs.

Written by Amitabh Verma, with music from Mithoon; Bas Ek Pal’s music easily made it to the top of the music charts when it was launched. The song ‘Tere Bin‘ took most of the accolades but poetically I loved the title track much more.

Sung magnificently by K.K., this song has to be one of his best contributions to Bollywood. The complex long lines are extremely well built up and delivered.

The lines: “Suna hai Mohabbat ki Takdeer mein Likhe hain andhere Ghane… Tabhi aaj Shayad Sitare Sabhi zara sa hi roshan huey” are posibbly my most favourite lines in any song ever. The inherent duality of the lines give rise to multiple interpretations and its this quality that I find awe inspiring. One of the interpretations of this line goes something like –
‘People tell me that there is a lot of darkness in the path of love, maybe thats why the stars in the night sky are little dimmer tonight (because I am remembering the one I love)’.
The other interpretation is –
‘People tell me that there is a lot of darkness in the path of love, maybe thats why the stars are fighting the darkeness to show me the path to you’

Bas Ek Pal
Just for a moment

Tu ek baar jo pyaar se mujhko chuley to har zakhm bhar jayegaa
Zara iltija sun ke dewaane dil ki mujhe apne dil se laga

If you touch me once with love, my every wound would be healed
Listen to the request of my mad heart and take me into your heart

Tere pyaar mein aise jiye hum
Jala hai yeh dil yeh ankhen hui Nam

I have lived like this in your love
My heart has burned and my eyes have been moist

Hamare Khayalo mein, Khwabaon mein, yaadon mein, Baaton mein rehte ho tum
Badaa ke main yeh haath chhuna jo chahun to pal bhar mein hote ho Gham

You live in my thoughts, my dreams, my memories and my words
And yet if I wanted to touch you by extending my hand, you disappeared in a moment

Suna hai Mohabbat ki Takdeer mein Likhe hain andhere Ghane
Tabhi aaj Shayad Sitare Sabhi zara sa hi roshan huey

I have heard that in the destiny of love there is only darkness
May be that is why the stars are shining dimly today

Mere haath ki in Lakeeron mein likhe abhi aur kitne sitam
Khafaa Ho gayi hai kushi, Waqt se ho rahe hain meherbaan Gham

How much more suffering is there written in the lines of my palm
Happiness resents me, and Time has only bestows grief.
