The second step in the projects for 2011 had me take up an opportunity to do something that I have wanted to do for a long time.

It was under quite extraordinary circumstances that I was given the opportunity to stage my play. My close friend Danny had booked a theater for two dates in mid feb and early march. Unfortunately his original plan of reprising a play we performed in December fell apart and with just a month to go I was asked if I would want to stage my play. The short deadline didnt scare me as much as I thought it would, I was in a different zone of thought during this period and was delighted at the opportunity being presented to me.

Looking back I was a bit hasty in making some initial decisions and simultaneously I took too long to make some obvious calls, but I guess you live and learn. There were multiple challenges in this project, this was the first time I was writing, directing and producing a professional play. While I had done the former two for short plays, the demands of production was what turned out to be a tough challenge along the way.

Poison was also the first time I was presenting myself to my family on the stage of theater. My parents like most south Indian parents weren’t too keen with my association with the fine arts and despite their objections I had persisted and now it was show time.

Ever since my first acting class with Misfit Theater, I had thought about doing this and finally after five years of preparation this was my moment of truth. February of 2011 will always remain a special month of my life. A month when for me a dream became a reality.
