One of my personal goals for 2011 is to complete 12 different projects over the year. These projects can be anything that suit my fancy but each one must be done by the end of a month.
My first project for the year was to revamp my website. I wanted to completely change the look and feel of my homepage and my blog but ran into unexpected complexities with respect to design during the process and had to start work on my February project early too. So all I could manage was to revamp my homepage.
I had a couple of ideas when I started out but organizing it right was the biggest issue. Plus I was concerned about what content to actually put in the page. My previous homepage was a simple list of links and I really wanted to try something different.
First step was to decide the background image. I usually don’t like photos of mine, I am inclined to images showing my silhouette mostly for my userpics but all that changed after an awesome photography session with my friend Pradeep Prakash. I loved many of the photos, I even used one in my calendar and also got the photo for the website in the same session.
Content and Design took a long time to zero upon but the final results are there for everyone to see. I got the basic layout design from a post on lifehacker and scouted the web for the right set of social icons. The credits to the original authors can be found in the credits page.
