When I first heard that they were making ‘Aashiqui 2‘, I was very skeptical; not about the story or direction but about the music. Aashiqui had without a doubt, some of the best songs from Bollywood in that era. It was only when I heard this song, Tum Hi Ho and understood its meaning in english, I realized that maybe I was underestimating the talent that has slowly grown to maturity in last few years.

While I didn’t really think ‘Aashiqui 2’ was a great film, I will find it very hard to deny that the music didnt move me. Ironically this isnt my favorite song in the movie, but it is easily the most popular one. Here is Tum hi ho meaning and translation in english of this beautiful song:

Kabira is easily one of the finest songs of Yeh Jawaani Hai Deewani. The song written by Amitabh Bhattacharya akin to “Iktaara” from Wake Up Sid, is truly beautiful in the way it conveys images, disdain and detachment. Phrases like ‘tujh ko pukaaray teri parchhaaiyaan’, references to the protagnist as ‘nirmohee’ and memories with ‘chaarpaai’ & ‘purvaai’ is just perfect. One of the choices a narrator has while telling a story, is where to start. Honestly, thats one quandary I was really hoping to be spared of this time around; Unfortunately, despite the fact that this entire story happened in a little less than 20 minutes, I am not to be excused from that vital decision. A few days back I found myself sitting in Cafe Noir(an awesome cafe in UB city) having an amazing conversation with a friend. We were discussing a script that I had written and considering it was just the second draft it had a lot of unresolved debatable ideas in it.
