The magic of cricket…

I had the pleasure of watching Iqbal yesterday. Nagesh Kukunoor again creates magic as Naseruddin Shah(NS) once again is immaculate on screen. Add veteran Girish Karnard(GK) to the mix and you get probably the best movie this year.

“Iqbal” is the story of a deaf and mute boy who is in love with cricket. Combine unbelivable bowling talent to the boy’s bag of tricks and you get the true “Iqbal”. The kid gets into a cricket acadamy headed by GK, where he blossoms untill one fateful day when he bowls a beamer at the star batsman(he is actually taunted to it). He gets thrown out of the acadamy and is left listless.

Then comes NS into the movie(actually he is in there from the start). Iqbal discovers that NS is actually an ex cricketer. After unbeliable persistance the boy convinces NS to coach him.

The rest of the movie exposes him into the politics of cricket and has more than one lessons we can use. The movie is a must watch and I recommend it to everyone who loves good cinema.

Nagesh surprized me with “Theen Deewarein” almost a year ago and delivers the goods again with Iqbal. I can officially declare that im a Nagesh Kukunoor fan :).

PS: This the first movie in which Nagesh does not make a guest appearence.
