The first stop on the 12 day vacation was on an island also known as the Emerald Isle. The stay at Colombo was not a prerequisite on any of our travel plans but since the packaged tour was organized in collaboration with Sri Lankan Airlines, a mandatory one day stop was made on the Island.
Honestly one day is not enough time to get an opinion about any place, let alone a country. But Sri Lanka reminded me a lot of South India. The people, places, climate and hell even the accent seemed awfully similar :P
We arrived in Colombo early in the morning and were given a beautiful resort to camp in. The private beach was very inviting and after breakfast I didnt think twice diving into the ocean to enjoy the beautiful weather.
In the evening we strolled out for a city tour of Colombo. We drove by a few landmarks and stopped at the Independence Square. This was the first of many photography stops we would make in the days to come (something I really appreciated about the tour)
We stopped by a Buddhist temple along the way back to the resort. Buddhist art always intrigued me, as it turned out I would get a lot more opportunities to enjoy this form of art in the days to come.
Early next morning we headed back to the Airport to catch our flight to Kuala Lumpur.
