Made Up People…

Fictional characters have never been a big thing for me. As kids most people would have gotten engrossed and inspired by stories of fictional characters… It took me a really long time to understand and be moved by fictional characters. Atonement – Movie Review

[Rating:5/5]

Atonement was recommended to me by my acting teacher and my first impression after watching the movie was this has to be one of the best movies of all time! The movie won the BAFTA Award for the best picture and is nominated in the same category(and others) at the Oscars… I will be rooting for it.

Based on a Booker prize nominated novel by the same name, Atonement tells the love story between Cecilia Tallis(Keira Knightley) and Robbie Turner(James McAvoy) after Robbie is wrongly accused of a crime by Cecilia’s sister Briony Tallis(Saoirse Ronan). The event destroys the budding romance between the two and changes the lives of those involved.

There is hardly anything flawed in the movie. Acting is possibly the best we saw all of last year… explains why Keira is nominated for the Best Actress statute. Screenplay is simply perfect! The visuals and unfolding of scenes is an artist’s dream… Some of the scenes just left me spellbound! The real winner is how the story is told and how it ends!

Taare Zameen Par – Movie Review

tzp
[rating:4]

I finally managed to catch TZP and got a few surprises through the movie.

Firstly the background score was brilliant, it complemented the scenes very well and really pepped up the emotional scenes. Acting wise the actors were all impressive. The kid(Darsheel Safary)’s performance was top notch and held the movie together very well. Aamir Khan seemed to have played himself in the movie. I have seen interviews of him and he seemed to be the same person in the movie. The role truly required someone like that so it fit in very well.

There were a few other things I was very impressed with in the movie. Take for example the scene where Aamir returns to his old school. More precisely the scene where he talks with the female teacher… that scene was beautifully written as nothing about her was known and yet the dialog gave enough to make her a part of the story. The conversation was very simple and original, that scene was when I was certain that the writing was one of the best.
