Applibase’s New Year Party

Applibase decided to celebrate the coming of the new year a couple of days in advance. In the evening of 30th Dec 2005 the (small) crowd assemebled in our conference room for the festivities… What we got was absolutely simply amazing.

Preethi and Asha were the perpetrators and the crime was giving us hours of fun. The plot involved getting us in the same room (something that is incredibly hard to achieve) and put us head to head in a tournament. The tournament involved skill, determination, hunger(I know u guys are laughing) and pain too.

Asha and Preethi were not a part of the competitors and that left just Pramod, Prasad, Theju, Shruthi, Anant, Vidya, Musavir, Varma and I. The draws were done before the start of each event and the first match was between Theju and Prasad

Bangalore Attacked

Late last evening (Dec 28, 2005 7:20 Pm) Indian Institute of Science(IISc) Bangalore was attacked by intruder(s). 1 Professor was killed and about 6 injured in the attack. The attack was shock and Bangalore still seems to be stirred with the impact.

The Magic of Numbers…

I had the honour of attending a seminar given by Mr. Simon Singh at IISC(Indian Institute of Science) today. Theju, Preethi and Sidharth accompanied me and I want to thank Preethi, coz without her we would have never been at this talk. The talk was about “Risks, Probability and Gambling” at the National Institute of Advanced Studies auditorium.

The talk was simply faboulous. The Gentleman in his brief 45 min lecture explained some of the fasinating facts and occurences in Mathematics. The experience was awakening of sorts to my love for Maths. I still remember that it was my favourite subject in school but somewhere down the line the charm had run out.

He started out explaining probability with a simple game of coin tosses and patterns.

Sunrise

I have always wanted to take photos of the Sun rising but frankly the waking up seemed to be the problem. A few days ago I was determined to take pics of the Sun setting and missed it by a few mins… I was so much in the mood for photos that I decided to wake up early and wait for the Sun. That was the best decision of my life…

I woke up as light was peering over the horizon and headed to the terrace. It took me only a few secs to realized how cold it was out there but I was undeterred and the results are all over this page.

This is the first time I have seen the sunrise undisturbed and frankly I totally regret never having done this.
