Since almost 2 days ago(Oct, 19 2005) my wordpress blog was very slow to load. I presumed that it was probably my server at fault and thought it will get sorted out by itself. But sometime yesterday I realized my website which was running on the same server was working fine. It had to be a problem within WordPress.

My collegue, Anant explained to me later that the WordPress Plugin WP-ShortStats was the culprit. It seems the maping between the IP adresses and IP adress Lookup was broken(permanently). This caused the IP search to timeout each time causing the slow load of the page. As expected when the plugin was disabled the blog came to life again.

Its kindof sad that Anant had to search a lot to get this info hence this blog entry. If you have a similar problem go on and deactivate WP-ShortStats it will most probably solve ur problem :).
