Top 5 Romantic Movies…

February 14, 2007 1:43 pm

Yep the day caught me too :)

Here are my 5(or so) favorite Romantic Movies:

Special Mentions:
Romeo + Juliet :
Shakespeare and Baz Luhrmann is a deadly combo and in this adaptation of possibly the most famous love story of all time truly echoes that.

Vita è bella, La(Life is Beautiful) :
The first half of Life is Beautiful has one of the most romantic of stories on screen. Filled with humor and love this movie is a must watch for everyone.

5. Eternal Sunshine Of the Spotless Mind :
A couple (Jim Carrey and Kate Winslet) undergo a procedure to erase each other from their memories when their relationship turns sour, but it is only through the process of loss that they discover what they had to begin with.

4. When Harry Met Sally… :
No Romantic movie list can be complete without this movie :)
Harry and Sally meet when she gives him a ride to New York. The film jumps through their lives as they both search for love, but fail, bumping into each other time and time again. Finally a close friendship blooms between them, and they both like having a friend of the opposite sex. But then they are confronted with the problem: “Can a man and a woman be friends, without sex getting in the way?”

3. Wicker Park/ Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge :
Wicker Park is a rare ‘Romantic Thriller’. It is the story of an investment Banker Matthew who puts his life and a business trip to China on hold when he thinks he sees Lisa, the love of his life who walked out on him without a word two years earlier, walking out of a restaurant one day. With a little help from his friend Luke, Matthew obsessively and relentlessly tracks Lisa down and while doing so, runs into another young woman, calling herself Lisa whom, unknown to Matthew, is an actress named Alex and may hold the key to Lisa’s disappearance, and discovery.

Dilwale Dulhania Le Jayenge is a romantic anecdote of second-generation Indians living in Britain who are strongly attached to the traditional values of Indian culture. The frolicking of the Raj and Simran in Europe and is followed by Raj’s struggle to win over the hearts of every member of Simran’s family so that they allow him to marry her.

2. Before Sunrise :
A young man and woman meet on a train in Europe, and wind up spending one romantic evening together in Vienna. Unfortunately, both know that this will probably be their only night together.

1. Before Sunset :
A sequel to Before Sunrise after 9 years, shows how much has changed in the 2 main characters. Shot in real time and again involving a conversation between the two, we realize what the one evening 9 years ago meant to each of them and how it profoundly changed their lives for ever.

This movie is hands down the best romantic movie I have ever watched… In its subtle non mushy way it shows how much you can give to someone in a short time…

Other Movies of this Genre I loved: You’ve Got Mail, Sleepless in Seattle, Serendipity, Casablanca, Rocky, North By Northwest…

PS: I have certianly not watched every good romantic movie out there so if you have a suggestion, please leave a comment :) Its also highly probable that I missed out some obviously beautiful romantic movie(bad memory :P;) so feel free to point it out to me :)

Have a fun filled Valentines Day :)

Helo…. i was just browsing through and i’ve thort of some more romantic movies… how about sleepless in seattle? Have you seen that one with Meg Ryan and Tom Hanks? They’ve also done another one together actually called You’ve got Mail..that one is a bit more recent. But it’s still good. I also like the Holiday with Cameron Diaz and Kate something-arather and Jack Black and i think it’s Jude Law? But yer, I liked that one too. I guess though that these are just some of my favourite movies, not ALL TIME TOP romantic movies. So i guess these don’t really count, however just thort i’d let you know! Have a great day!

Thank you for the comment Em, I have seen Sleepless in Seattle and You’ve got mail. Hv not seen The Holiday yet but plan to catch it soon. I have mentioned those two movies at the end of my list as the movies I loved but did not make it to the top of my list :)
