Belwadi – In Pictures

Belwadi Complex

Belwadi is a small village in the out skirts of Halebeedu. Almost forgotten in the shade of its world famous neighbor Belwadi boasts of one of the most beautiful and serene Hoysala Temple Complexes. I have been to Halebeedu (and Belur) dozens of times since childhood but this was only my second visit to Belwadi (and first armed with a camera).

For me, the hour or so spent in the temple complex was the best time of the trip. Every inch of the complex was simply breathtaking and the fact that we were the only tourists at the place at that time allowed us to have a very leisure view of the beautiful temple.

According to the Priest on Mar 20th of every year(that is the Summer Equinox btw) the first beam of sunlight supposedly hits the idol of god directly and slowly the beam moves away. He invited us to come and watch it next year :)

Hulikere

Hulikere is another less famous but beautiful historic place. It has a beautiful pool that was designed to let the Princess(es) bathe in privacy. Each one of the mini Gopuras in the pool has a chamber within which the Princess could use. Unfortunately for us thanks to the rain showers for the few weeks before our visit, the pool had filled up and we could not get a glimpse of the chambers. A beautiful place to visit none the less.

Dont miss these two places next time you drive by Halebeedu.
