As I walked into the airport yesterday, I had already traveled for three full days. I had covered a distance of about 1200 kms on road in those three days(I wasn’t driving though) and had only had about four hours of sleep in the last twenty four hours. But despite all that I felt fine… Well that was about to change.
As we(my colleague and I) walked in to pick up our boarding passes, I felt a weird sense of familiarity with the lady giving the passes. I wondered if she could be the person I was thinking about but knew full well it was impossible. The thing about these sort of feelings is that after a while you just don’t see the familiarity but it persisted even after an hour or so when we walked past her at the gate.
As we were walking upto our seats, one of the air hostesses was standing on the aisle. She was standing just one step away from the row where we had our seats and as I walked up that feeling hit me again. For some reason she looked exactly like someone I knew a decade or so ago. I couldn’t remember the name and was feeling very odd by all this that I simply took my seat.
We land at our destination and a two hour long drive from the airport later we meet with our hosts. There is a round of introductions and I can swear I have seen two of those guys before. One was even a younger version of the man I had met years ago. At this point I am thinking I am going nuts.
We go for lunch and the doorman seemed familiar. We return to office and I am back in front of the familiar faces and am more and more convinced with each passing moment that I know them. We get back to the airport for our evening flight and a guy we are walking next to seems familiar. I keep telling myself I need some rest.
At the counter checking our hand baggage, a man drops his boarding pass by mistake. I point it out to him and he looks at me, again a familiar face.
All this while I am suddenly wondering if I am in some sort of “Truman Show“, maybe they ran out of actors and are reusing a few thinking I would have forgotten them or something ;) or maybe its just a case of fatigue hitting my mind… Whatever the explanation I was amazed and at some level amused by this whole experience.
