The Myth – A Review

myth

Jackie Chan stars in a Period based action flick that can be only described as possibly his worst movie ever. The Myth tries to recreate the magic of “Crouching Tiger Hidden Dragon” combined with Jackies comedic style but fails miserably.

This is a perfect example of how bad a good story can end up looking. The story on its own is spectacular. Jackie plays an archaeologist who in his previous life was the General to the Army of the Ming Dynasty. He keeps getting the same dream and in it he is assigned to protect the princess who is to marry the King. The story starts of with a search for a myth that in a specific temple in India there exists a grave floating in air.

Jackie and his friend make their way to India and from there track down the mystical place. They manage to enter a restricted place in the temple and see the grave with a sword floating in air. His friend removes a stone of unknown origin from one of the statues and the Grave crashes down. The stone provided the power to float any object when it was hit with light…

Flashes of the past and the present are at times irritating but the movie is definately disappoining in the end. The Kung-fu is very little and comedy is also limited in the flick.

Mallika Sherawat plays an Indian girl who manages to protect and help Jackie to escape from the Indian police. Her role despite what the media say is not “blink and miss”. She manages about 15 min on screen but in small parts. She does what she has done in almost all her films (ie, frankly we get to see a “lot of her”, if u know what I mean), Good for her :P.

Frankly get a DVD of Rush Hour or any other Jackie movie if you can instead of watching this one… it aint worth it :(.
