Conversations With Her: Valentines Day…

Me: So what are you planning on doing on Valentines Day?
Her: Nothing actually.
Me: Seriously, no plans… party?
Her: I didnt even think about it actually. Anyway I am totally against the idea of Valentines day
Me: You are? Against what exactly…
Her: the whole idea that love needs a day to be celebrated. You know, its just this idea thrust on us by card and other companies to make money.
Me: i have heard that one before.
Her: Well the general idea i am against is the day for love. I mean shouldn’t it be celebrated everyday. Its like you don’t care about the person you love all year and you get one day to redeem it all.
Me: But at least there is that day.
Her: hmmm
Me: Like you said, people spend all year not expressing their love for ones they love. Shouldn’t there be a day to make up for it.
Her: If you really care for someone you would, if not daily but once in a while do something nice for the person. You dont need an alarm on 14 feb to do it.
Me: I agree… But how many people actually do something nice? The vast majority are the kind that probably need the day.
Her: I dont buy it. Dont love someone if you cant bear the responsibilities. Thats what I think.
Me: Fair enough, but generally I do think we need this day.
Her: You do. I thought you were just being that over practical guy tend to be sometimes.
Me: He he, a bit of both…
Her: And why do we need it?
Me: Frankly we are short of reasons to celebrate now. People dont play holi coz the colors are artificial. Diwali is dampened by the environmental causes. Hell even other very common celebrations are a little toned down now.
Her: So we need to celebrate Valentines Day?
Me: Hey wait, I am explaining… Its not just the lack of celebration, there is enough negative thoughts with terrorism, hatred and jealousy all around. I believe at this time we need to hold on to every possible celebration we can. When we celebrate something as a group we are much happier and honestly I think we need that.
Her: hmmm
Me: I also believe that telling someone you care is very important. If you do it every week, great but if you dont I wont stop you from saying it once a year.
Her: hmmm… So what are you planning to do?
Me: I dont need to do much on the day, I try and make the people I care about smile when I can. (smiles)
Her: (smiles)Thats good
Me: But I am planning to spend a little time doing something I didnt do well in the past year
Her: And what is that?
Me: Work! I guess I will be working, most of saturday.
Her: He he, just make sure to say enough "I love you"s (with a smirk)
