Torture the Caller…

When was the last time you called someone and instead of the usual “ring… ring” you heard a famous song… The person you had called had got “CallerTunes”. This new feature in most mobile service providers is an add on service(Translate to lot of ‘cha-ching’ for the service provider). Basically you call a number or msg a specific message to a number and you get to choose from a plethora of songs to make it your CallerTune and ppl who call you get to listen to the song instead of the usual ringing.

The Idea was innovative and became a total success… for the Mobile company that is.

A couple of weeks ago I had to meet up with a few friends and I happened to call a friend of mine who had the callertune of “Tu Hi Meri Shab” from Gangster… Most ppl who read my blog know I love that song. Later that evening when we all met up, I complemented my friend on his excellent choice of CallerTune and he replied saying that one of the other guys who called him asked him why he had to listen to crap before he picked up the phone.

Thats when I realized that what my friend was doing was basically forcing his callers to listen to his favorite song before they could speak to him(It was not deliberate but it was happening). This works out if he knows all his friends who call him like the song and dont mind it but there are exceptions as well…

Lately I hv realized that I shy away from calling certain ppl because I will hv to listen to ‘some damn song’. I keep my handset at least 10 inches from my ear when I call them coz all I can hear is noise, when the noise stops I say hello. I hv been calling the person much lesser than usual and mostly when I cant say stuff thru messages. On the other side I call a few friends and hope they dont pick up the phone coz their callertune is so melodious.

I guess there is no safe CallerTune which wont irritate someone… wait a sec there is one it goes “Ring… Ring… Ring… Ring” :P

PS: I dont use CallerTunes and like most ppl if a callertune irritates me I dont tell the person coz if they chose it they probably love the song :)
