Trip To SE Asia – Genting Highlands, Malaysia (Day 2-5)

The next stop in our tour of SE Asia was Kuala Lumpur. We were to spend two days at the beautiful Genting Highlands Resort and two days at KL.

We arrived at KL via Singapore on 22rd and set off immediately on a 3hr drive to Genting Highlands. This was my first experience with a country so drastically different from India that I was almost in awe the entire four days we were there.

Along the way I got my first glimpse at the Petronas Twin Towers. The one thing that I had most looked forward to in this trip was seeing the twin towers. The towers even from a huge distance away, did not disappoint.

We reached Genting Highlands around night fall and took the world’s fastest skyway to the top. The enthusiasm was dampened a bit as it was too dark to look at the beautiful scenery along the way. But reaching the hotel reignited the awe.

My first opinion of the place was this seemed awfully similar to Monaco. Now my only knowledge of Monaco are mostly from the F1 races it conducts and the net. The roads, walkways, hotels and cars were just like what I had seen.

Genting Highlands is this Holiday Resort with theme park(s), casino(s), golf course and so many other cool facilities.(More details than I noticed are at the Wikipedia page). For me it seemed like a city made for entertainment.

We spent the next couple of days visiting the theme park, casinos and gardens. There was hardly a moment of rest for me as I hopped around from one building to another… Before long I was the unofficial guide to my family, they would ask me the route to the Restaurant, money changer, malls ect.

Ironically I always considered myself as more like a nature person, and yet presented with so much man made wonder I just soaked it all up and loved every bit of it. I wasn’t even bothered by the cold mountain air anymore.

Among other things I had the opportunity to go into a casino and try out a few games. My experiences wrt that deserve a dedicated post :P but like the majority of people before me I lost my money(I was conservative and didnt get too lavish on gambling :P )

Before long our stay at Genting was nearing an end. We headed back to KL and took the Skyway in broad daylight. Got a few good looking pictures of the mountains along the way.
