Fictional characters have never been a big thing for me. As kids most people would have gotten engrossed and inspired by stories of fictional characters… It took me a really long time to understand and be moved by fictional characters.
When I watched Atonement, I got sucked into the world of the characters and I felt this amazing connection with Cecilia and Robbie… So much that it inspired this in a beautiful scene. Prior to this I have only connected deeply with two frictional characters. One was Dominique Francon from Ayn Rand‘s The Fountainhead, a character for whome I found no equal in books I read and movies I watched. Another was a female protagonist in a play I was supposed to act in. The play never got made but her beliefs and ideas engulfed my thoughts.
Its characters like these that inspire me to write, with the hope that someone would be out there like me who reads it and their life would change forever just by the knowledge that such thoughts exist… Its hard to be grateful to a fictional character, writing is my way of saying “Thank You” and passing the baton.
