Mom and Dad have always been no-pet people. Suggestion of a pet dog would drive them to an argument of about how its so much additional responsibility and something that is not worth the effort. This has been the case for so long that I feel happy enough petting and playing with dogs wherever I find them :P
Oh in case you did not know or haven’t figured it out yet… I am a dog person :)
The past few days have been extremely cold in Bangalore, temp has dropped to the lowest in decades and well things are getting a bit chilly… We have this huge basement where we and our tenants park their cars… more often than not someone is either parking a vehicle in there or removing one, so the gates are normally just left open.
A couple of days ago a dog decided to get into the basement, the dog was not violent and hardly even barked. It kept going in and out so we thought it was trying to hide from other dogs. Only a day later we realized that the dog was a mom and was keeping her hurt pup inside!
Now this pup had a hurt leg and was totally weak. We were at a predicament at this point. I am of the opinion that we must not influence too much on the natural happening of things. This dog might have been weak but it had its mom and she would give it all the knowledge to help it survive its environment. Another part of me saw this weak little thing and wanted to help it.
Fortunately my parents took the decision for me… While I was at work and basically seeing the pup only when I came back home, my parents started keeping food for the dogs. But things weren’t going to just end there…
The day before yesterday the mom just took off. I think she realized that there was someone else to take care of her child. The pup squealed for the mom all thru the day and hardly had anything we gave it to eat. The sounds totally depressed me and I just had no idea what to do.
But as of yesterday the pup was much quieter and even ate a bit. Only when I saw it reacting to my mom did I realize that it really liked my mom. It just gets so thrilled to see my mom that it sprints across the room on its 3 legs and does what ever my mom tells it. I was shocked seeing this coz the pup has known my mom only for like 2-3 days! And my mom is more surprised that the pup is so smart :)
My dad thinks that the mom will be back in a couple of days and will take the pup out. I for some reason am not that optimistic but then again i hardly know anything about how dogs raise their pups…
Well the experience has been good for my parents now my parents are not that quick turning me down at the suggestion of having a pet :)
Ps: Any suggestions on what to do to help out the pup will be graciously accepted :) (adoption unfortunately might be out of the question :( )
