Jab We Met – Movie Review

[rating:4.5]

A lot of my friends recommended this movie to me… but the real driving force for we to watch this movie was a quick visit to the Wikipedia page of the movie as I was trying to figure out who sang each song from the movie. In the very first para I found out that this movie was written and directed by Imtiaz Ali, who earlier directed Socha Na Tha! Socha Na Tha is one of my favourite movies, I have watched it like 5 times and totally loved the way it was made! Just then I knew I should not miss this for anything in the world :P Good Call Haas :)

Many reviews have already mentioned the common stuff that they loved in this movie so I will tell you what I truly loved in this movie…

I was very impressed with the way the story was written and how it unfolded. There was very little doubt in the mind of the viewer as to what is happening and that is so important in a movie that had subtle clues about more important things in it.

The use of the sound and absence of a background score at some situations is just hauntingly beautiful. Take the moment when Shahid is walking in the first sequence of the movie and two birds fly away a few feet behind him, that scene had me hooked!

Acting wise the casting was very good. The movie might have looked like Shahid’s but it was more Kareena who had to put in a great effort to play very variable character. Rest of the cast was almost like an ensemble molding to the story seamlessly another sign of great edition work(something hard to find in Hindi Cinema)

Songs of this movie are brilliant and addictive. I just cant have enough of Tum Se Hi by Mohit Chauhan!

Every story has points in it that are far superior to the rest of the story. Sometimes stories are written just to bring up these weird little situations where sometimes nothing is said yet the silence is just disturbingly beautiful. This movie was loaded with such moments…

* The first scene was one of the best first scenes I have seen in a Hindi film in a while now! Just the serenity of it had me gripped to my seat.
* The scene just before the end of the first half where Shahid’s character simply walks away is one of the most honest and powerful scenes I have ever seen.

For me the only disappointing thing was the way the first two songs were shot. They seemed oddly out of place and that just broke the flow for me.

All in all this movie is one of the better movies and totally a must watch if you are bugged with the same old type of Hindi movies…
