The Owner – A Global Feature Film

When I first heard about CollabFeature and their attempt to make a Global Feature Film, I was both amazed and inspired. A project of such a scale and transcending borders, was truly awe inspiring.

Created by 25 filmmakers from 13 countries, “The Owner”, CollabFeature’s first first film premiers this weekend across the globe. “The Owner” brings together a variety of cultures, languages, and film styles into a singular narrative plot. The script was written entirely via an Internet collaboration – most of the filmmakers have never met in person.

In an industry first filmmakers from countries including India, South Africa, China, Lebanon, Brazil, Colombia, the U.S. and from Europe – joined forces to write, direct, produce and now premiere a feature film in their own neighborhoods. “The Owner”, follows an ordinary backpack on a journey around the world. The bag is passed from character to character, country to country, on its way back to its owner—a man whose identity is the central mystery of the film.

CollabFeature was started by filmmakers Marty Shea and Ian Bonner in Detroit, Michigan USA, to facilitate collaboration between international filmmakers. The pair has written and directed seven short films that have screened and won awards at dozens of film festivals around the world. A second collaborative feature, including even more countries, is currently in production.

The Owner premiers in Bangalore, Berlin, Detroit, Dubai, Dublin, Mumbai, Newcastle and Sao Paulo on May 25th 2012. The Bangalore premiere is scheduled for 26th May, 3:30pm & 7:30pm at Alliance Francaise de Bangalore, Vasanthnagar.
