My first impression when I read bout this was… another survey… another comment, but what this turned out to be was far more crazy.
Lets go to the start of this thing. A long long time ago (actually just a few days)…
There was a survey about pre-marital sex and in it the results said that Indians lost their virginity at an average age of 19.8 years. They interviewed these 2000 odd people (for the record I was not asked :P ) and went about calculating and generalizing everything. Frankly people got pissed (mostly people who lost theirs on or before 19.7 years coz they were misrepresented), they could not do much coz its just a poll.
Then one fine day in an interview Kushboo, a south Indian actor was asked about her opinion about this poll. She replied with a comment: “Any Educated man must stop expecting his bride to be a virgin”. Then there was an uproar in Tamilnadu(South Indian state) and many political figures got involved. Some Non Bailable Warrants were issued and there were protests from everywhere… A respectable South Indian actor, Suhasini seconded the opinion and she was dragged into the issue.
Later the two actors were forced into an apology. The issue is still hot and recently Sania Mirza, highest ranked Indian in the WTA was asked this in an interview (as if there arent any more questions about her forehand) and she walked out of the room after refusing any comment.
My two cents:
Last time I checked India was still a democracy and everyone is entitled to their opinion. People talk about “India and its Culture” and still show the maturity of a two year old.
Some heads had to roll and once they had someone raizing their hand everyone wanted a shot at them.
The thing that pissed me off the most was that they went about issuing a “non bailable warrant”. It is issued to people who are a treat to society or themselves if left in the public. Well let cuff her before she makes more statements… probably burn her at the stake… we are thinking of mature solutions… arent we?
40% of India is under the age of 18 thats 400 Million humans. Stop shutting mouths and educate them. The stats of AIDS in India is like a horror movie… look at that survey now and the stats might not surprise you. Its sad how little people know about this stuff (trust me I am from an engg college and have an idea how many recognized the ribbon).
Well as for Kushboo, no need to feel really bad for her as the old saying goes:
There is no such thing as bad publicity
