Harry Potter And The Half Blood Prince – Movie Review

[rating:4.5/5]

Harry Potter and his friends are back in this the sixth edition of the series. The young heroes from Hogwarts are out to stop the evil forces of Lord Voldemort as he slowly increases his grip on the Wizard world. In the movie version of the Penultimate book of the now legendary seven book series, Harry Potter is put face to face with the origins and younger years of Tom Riddle and for the first watches as his deepest fears come true…

Its never fair to compare the movie to the book it was based on, but the Half blood prince succeeds where many others have failed in the past. In the 150 odd minutes of its running the director, David Yates and screenwriter Steve Kloves managed to capture the essence of the 400 page book, which was easily my most favorite of the series. Along the way they took the liberty to introduce comic sequences and short cuts in the original story to fit the movie within the limits of a movie.

The main soul of the Half Blood Prince is the blossoming of the love between the characters in the story and the revelation of the dark secrets of the dark Lord. The love which is to play an essential part of the final part(s) of the movie series, was subtle and at times exceedingly romantic. The search for the truth about the dark lord leads us to what will be an exciting climax in the Finale.

Acting wise the movie was very impressive. The actors are now well settled in their parts and there was this added confidence of them adding thier bit to the characters they played. Fortunately it all came out well.

The Screenplay is highly engaging and entertaining. Personally I loved the first half of the movie that was very pacey and time just flew by.

The special effects is very impressive, especially the scenes with the Pensive leave you awestruck.

All in all this is easily the best movie of the 6 so far. Dont miss it if you are a Harry Potter fan :)
