Drive to Muzhappilangad Beach…

In the first weekend of this month, a bunch of my friends and I decided to drive down to the only drive-in beach in India. We had heard about the Muzhappilangad beach but what awaited us at the seaside was something special.

We chose to drive to Kannur in the following route Bangalore – Mandya – Srirangapatna – Hunsur – Nagarhole – Kutta – Kattikulam – Kannur. The roads were very good for almost 95% of the journey… Thats exactly what you need on a drive.

Our first pitstop was near the entrance of the Nagarhole forest. As the other travelers were attracted to the Elephants, we walked down to the taming cages of the big mammals. The sheer size of the cages was pretty spectacular.

As we were walking back we saw this boy carrying a peculiar bow. The bow was designed to almost behave like a slingshot and launch stones. My friend and I tried our hand at it but it seemed like a skill you cannot master in a few short minutes.

We reached Muzhappilangad beach with just about 30 min to go to the sunset. So our first experience of this beautiful long stretch was when it was basked in the light of the setting sun. The sight, as the pictures testify was spectacular.

After the sunset we shed away our cameras and dived into the timid ocean. The thing I loved about the beach was that we could walk a long distance into the ocean without the fear of the overpowering waves.

After the late evening swim(or splashing around) we returned to our hotel for dinner. Did I mention that the hotel was quite literally a stone throw away from the beach… well it was :P
We spent a lot of time after dinner sitting under the stars and talking. I have always been attracted to the sea just for the sounds the waves make… That was the evening I had been looking forward for last few months :)

Day two saw us drive upto Kallur to visit the St. Angelo Fort. Forts are really beautiful subjects for photography… loaded with objects like cannons and high walls, its hard not to try out a few experimental shots :P

Day three was the day of the return… after a few photos to remember our lovely stay we headed to the Tellycherri fort which was right on the way. After a short visit to the fort we started on our return journey.

This trip has been one of those relaxing recovery trips I had been looking forward to for months. It felt nice to leave thoughts and worries behind and listen to the waves…
