I have the same laptop, with the exact problem.
I was waiting for HP to own up to the problem and do the right thing but
they refuse. Unfortunately HP with suffer in bad publicity, for this one
mistake. $400 for this repair, especially as shown here, could have been simplified. I’m sure this method is not ideal, but if you’re listening HP, people do not want to spend another $400 on a laptop after 2 yrs on something that should have been avoided in the first place.

I will give this a shot, before sending it back to HP. They will not get any more money from me.

My flatmate had this series laptop, it was a problem from the very beginning. Heat problems and a pathetic battery which lost all its juice in just 6 months! I guess his laptop too had the same problem as above, since ultimately the GPU started displaying colored lines. He got the motherboard repaired for S$300 last month, I guess the laptop repair shop did something like in the above video.

Anyway, he bought a Fujitsu laptop last month after 2 years of hell with his HP laptop.
