Most people seek happiness from their external circumstances - money, material goods, and relationships. You know that happiness comes from your internal world - an optimistic outlook and an attitude of gratitude.

Most people want the quick fix magic pill. You take a long term approach to creating the change you desire.

Most people never read a book again after graduating college. You make reading a regular habit.

Most people are looking for what they can get from a relationship. You focus on what you can give in a relationship.

Most people blame - other people, their parents, the government, evil corporations etc. You take responsibility.

Most people seek approval and permission. You go after what you want without hesitation.

Most people want a get rich quick scheme. You provide massive value for a period of time to accumulate wealth.

Most people don’t know what they want from life. You have your goals written down.

Most people complain. You take action to make things the way you want or accept them as they are if you can’t change them.

Most people compare themselves to others. You compare yourself to your personal standards.

Most people are limited by their fears. You breakthrough fears with courage.

Most people give their power away to authority figures. You are the ultimate authority in your life.

Most people hate their jobs. You find a way to make money doing what you love.

Most people spend hours in front of the television. You spend time doing what really inspires you.

For example (in the last year), Consistent artists who I listen to: Kishore Kumar, K.K. and Shaan
Spikes for certain songs:
(Time frame - Artist - Song - Album)
July 07 - Mithoon - Mausam - The Train
Sep 07 - Mustafa Zahid - Toh Phir Aao, Tera Mera Rishta - Aawarapan
Oct 07 - Shail Hada - Saawariya - Saawariya
Nov 07 - Mohit Chauhan - Tum Se Hi - Jab We Met
Mar 08 - Atif Aslam - Pehli Nazar Mein - Race
June 08 - Rashid Ali - Kabhi Kabhi Aditi - Jaane Tu… Ya Jaane Na

Not to mention that I can easily pick incidents and emotions in the graph but wont be putting that list up anytime soon

I am planning to pick up a Portable GPS Navigator. I am planning to use it for the following:
* Post processing information from treks and drives.
* Monitor runs.
* If possible to hook it upto my camera and GeoCode photos.
* Not too pricy as I am not going to use any mapping features

I am not too worried about the mapping facility of the navigator(India does not seemed to be well mapped either way).

I am currently looking at the following models:
Garmin eTrex Legend Portable Navigator

So what do you recommend?

It has been 3 years since I started blogging… I have changed a lot during that time, met loads of people that have influenced my life… all thanks to that decision 3 years ago.

I know its very hard to imagine who I would have been if I hadn’t been influenced to enter the blogging world… I guess such introspection is basically a waste of time but what I should be asking myself is “why I started blogging?” and “Does it still serve the purpose I started it for?” The answer to that is for me to contemplate and (re)discover. But what I can reveal is that the reasons and inspiration has changed over time… many many times over.

I was wondering how the three year younger me would view me. Ironically I think I would have considered the current myself very cool… The fun part is I honestly think the three year younger me was much more cooler than me right now. Again its the age that has distorted the understanding of the word ‘cool’. Coolness I think is a perspective, I have met people(online and offline) who have after a short interaction have started looking up to me(yeah I did enquire if they have been smoking something) and others who probably hate me. Oddly I write for neither… There is a very selfish reason for the existence of this blog and I can honestly never deny that.

At times in these 1000+ days(yeah its been that long) of blogging I have wondered if I have been honest. I know its very easy to project a very different image of yourself online. I always asked myself if someone who has never met me but has only known me thru this medium would have a decent idea of who I am. People who meet me regularly and read my blog are probably the only ones that would know the answer to that question.

A friend had once told me that she understood who I was just based on my short stories. She told me that they were far more clearer version of my ideas than my blog. Yet in the past year I have written only one story (its a different thing that its probably the most important thing I have ever penned… ok second most important )

Of these three years, I believe my second year of blogging was the best so far. This year has been one of lot more confusion and the lack of clarity makes it very stressful To be honest the first year was the one in which the ideas were flowing, the second was more of speaking about important ideas and letting the common ones take a back seat. This year so far has been an effort to perform CPR on this space and keep it alive.

Well the good thing about change is that its the way of life. who knows what this forth year of blogging will get me… if I will be able to keep my self motivated for another anniversary… Only time can tell

I was looking at the Bangalore Royal Challenger’s page in wikipedia to find where todays match is being held. Guess what I found! Read the Result column next to today’s match!

My instinctive reaction was that I started laughing! BRC is my team and I really support them but this is so wrong(a little funny though) For ppl who did not know, Chennai Super Kings are clearly the strongest team in the IPL so far and the Royal Challengers have faced a fair share of defeat.

Ps: This constitutes vandalism doesn’t it? How do I report it?

UPDATE: The vandalism is removed! Was just about the do it(after figuring out how ) and someone already did it Looked at the old revisions of changes and that moron who did the vandalism looks like a top class loser!

Today I installed Kubuntu 8.04(Hardy Heron) on my laptop. As the title says it took me just 12 Min and 30 Sec to fully install the system. Now that includes partitioning, Installing the Operating System and Commonly used programs. From the moment the first dialog which welcomed you to the install till the dialog that told you to reboot your system it took 12 Min 30 Sec flat.

The breakdown of the Install times

Partitioning, User information and Locale setup

2 Min 50 Sec

Installation of the operating system

9 Min 40 Sec

Total Time

12 Min 30 Sec

Now the system when it rebooted had:
(application type) (name of the application) [equivalent for windows]
Web Browser: Konqueror [Internet Explorer/Firefox]
Office Suite: Open Office [Microsoft Office]
Media Player: Kaffine [Windows Media Player]
Mail Client: Kontact [Outlook <strike>Express</strike>]
Web Messenger: Kopete [Yahoo Messenger/Gtalk]
Effects: Built into KDE 4 [Vista effects... I apologize for comparing the two]
also PDF Viewer, Image Viewer and many other basic applications.

Partitioning took me almost 3 Mins that was mostly coz I was making separate partitions for the linux root file system, if you choose the default it should atleast reduce another minute in the installation process.

Getting specific programs and drivers involved connecting to the net. All I had to do was open Adept a program manager and choose all the applications i needed eg. Firefox (12 Mb), Amarok(12 Mb)(An amazing music player that is default in the Kde 3 version), Flash Player/Java Support(15 Mb) ect.

If you were ever wondering if you wanted to try Linux, the time is clearly now. The transition is painless and the rewards plenty(Best being No more viruses ever!) plus its totally free from piracy and other worries. The latest version does not even require you to worry about partitioning and other sys admin work It takes care of everything right from Windows itself!

Note: The Install was performed on a HP tx1110us Laptop(2Gb Ram) using the Kubuntu 8.04 KDE 4 Amd64 DVD(Beta).

SSH(This is the base for some of the most amazing apps out there and allows me to use my iPod Touch with Amarok)

Finally A Search Engine

Now For the BEST… Found this program launcher for iPod Touch… Note that to open the menu all you have to do is drag your finger from the bottom right corner and it opens this REALLY cool menu which you can select by just sliding your finger!! You hv got to see it in action

Well that was a short tour of what my iPod can currently do… Could not grab screenshots for a lot of other apps like Sudoku, Crossword, Car Racing(that uses the builtin Accelerometer), Web Surfing, Pdf viewer and a bunch of other games… Well maybe next time

Inspiration is hard to find… Its harder to find it every time at the exact same place.

I don’t remember when I was first introduced to Zen Habits (thanks to Yodha) but I do remember that I was hooked to the blog. It was a very different blog compared to the ones out on the web and it had a nice feel to it. The suggestions and the ideas were very simple and clear… I personally owe to it a lot of induced changes in me.

I have hardly ever mentioned it in my blog. For such a strong influence it has been a silent inspiration for far too long.

One recent post - Open Source Blogging: Feel Free to Steal My Content got me all charged up with inspiration and I felt that I must write about this beautiful blog.

The blog talks about benefits of habits and how to make something a habit(some excellent tutorials that are easy to implement). If you have time do give it a read.

Ps: Zen Habits won the 2007 Best Overall Blog Award

Yesterday was the day of eye candy!!! First I picked up my iPod Touch (Yaay!!!) Its quiet possibly the most beautiful thing I have ever owned…

The iPod Touch is great but you have no idea how good it is untill you jailbreak it! If you own one and havent done it yet… DO IT NOW!

After going gaga over my “modified” iPod Touch all day, I decided to upgrade my laptop to KDE 4.0. What I saw simply blew my mind away! If you use Linux please try out KDE 4.0, its truly the start of something amazing. If you use Windows please give a shot at (k)ubuntu I have seen enough people(not just geeks) who have found it far more usable than a XP box. If you use Vista… my deepest condolences hope the program the loaded this page did not send your system usage meter over the top

Ps: If you dont know how to do any of the ^ comment and help shall be given
